Professional Objectives

 

Objective 1: Use developmentally appropriate communication to promote cognitive skill-building in each age group

 

Activities/Resources:

  • Research the appropriate behaviors for each age group 

  • Observe lead teachers using age appropriate communication, take notes

  • Research how, as a teacher, one would interact with each age group 

 

Evidence:

  • Create a pamphlet listing appropriate behaviors for each age group, as well as how to appropriately interact with and engage each age group.

 

Objective 2: Learn about the developmental stages of the different age groups.

 

Activities/Resources:

  • Research the developmental stages of the different age groups

  • Observe each age group, taking notes about their behavior as well as emotional and social tendencies 

  • Discuss developmental stages with lead teachers of the different age groups and take notes, observing how children of each age group would, for example, draw a picture of a simple geometric shape, or objects in the room (making sure each age group draws the same object, enabling a comparison of how the children specially reason and process geometric shapes).  

 

Evidence:

  • Provide the pictures drawn by each age group, showing how differently each child of each age group specially reason and process geometric shapes

  • Provide information about the developmental stages of different age groups to go along with the drawing comparisons. 

 

Objective 3: Learn to plan developmentally appropriate curriculum plans, which incorporate activities designed to meet the needs and interests of children of the age group.

Activities/Resources:

  • Shadow and observe the lead teachers in the classroom, as well as observe them when they plan curriculum/activities 

  • Discuss the curriculum building process with lead teachers/supervisor based on different age groups

  • Create a comprehensive curriculum or activity for a certain age group; observe how the children feel about the activity/whether it was developmentally appropriate and helpful in regard to their learning process and overall cognitive functioning

Evidence:

  • Provide a curriculum/sample curriculum which I created for a specific class/age group

  • Include pictures of the activity (for my portfolio) 

  • Provide my notes, observations, child responses to activity in my portfolio 

 

Internship Details

Duties Include

  • Responsible for maintaining safety and health of all children, including hygiene

  • Responsible for observing children in the classroom, monitor and interact with the children, use developmentally appropriate communication to promote cognitive skill-building

  • Assist in the creative curriculum goals and objectives & State of Connecticut Preschool Assessment Framework

 

Evaluation Methods

  • Supervisor completion of University forms

  • Weekly check-ins with my supervisor discussing my experience and my performance thus far. 

  • I’ve also been checking in with the lead teachers of the classroom & asking questions

 

Expected Work Schedule:

Hours: 25 hrs/wk

Monday-Thursday: 1:00 pm-6:00 pm

Friday: 9:00am-2:00pm
